Kaysha Corfield: Learning new skills with a WYG apprenticeship
“The people in my team, and the people I have managed to speak to in various other departments in the business, have all been really friendly, helpful and supportive.”
Kaysha Corfield explains why she chose an apprenticeship with the WYG resourcing team.
What does your job involve?
At WYG I’m an apprentice in the resourcing team. My role involves a lot of variety, with responsibilities spanning recruitment, on-boarding and general HR business support. I direct source candidates, screen CV’s, liaise with recruitment agencies, arrange interviews for hiring managers and help prepare new employees prior to them starting with the company.
Why did you choose an apprenticeship?
I decided to do an apprenticeship because I’ve known since high school that I want a career in recruitment and doing an apprenticeship is a way of actively learning whilst working. I also knew that doing an apprenticeship would allow me to pick up practical skills that are useful and adaptable in any industry that I wouldn’t have picked up in a classroom. Not to mention I can still gain a nationally recognised qualification.
What qualifications are you working towards?
I will have obtained a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Business Administration.
The qualification consists of a certain amount of units chosen based on my role at WYG. I can complete the units through both practical coursework and showing evidence of the work I do. This can be through screenshots, voice recordings, observations and e-learning modules.
Why do you enjoy working at WYG?
The people in my team, and the people I have managed to speak to in various other departments in the business, have all been really friendly, helpful and supportive. With WYG being a company that has a number of disciplines I feel like I have had exposure not only in my own role but also in other sectors throughout the business.
What have been your highlights so far?
One of my highlights so far has been attending a careers fair for school leavers who are thinking of starting apprenticeships. I enjoyed being able to share my knowledge and experience that I’ve gained while working at WYG.
